My 2 older children are 19 months apart. When they were young, one constant conflict was trying to figure out who was going to ride in the front seat when we ran errands. “It’s my turn.” “No it’s mine”, “He/she got it last time! It’s not FAIR!” We tried everything: tracking turns, rotating weeks, odd/even days. It helped, but it never did stop the under the breath, “It’ still not fair….” complaints. The most frightening aspect of these disagreements between my children was what came out of my mouth when they occurred. An automatic reflex kicked in and I found myself quoting my father, “Get in the car, life’s not fair.” It is a strange feeling how a phrase comes out of your mouth and you don’t hear your voice, but your father’s! I have had conversations with people who don’t believe in Jesus or follow Him because they think it isn’t fair. “What about those people who never hear of Jesus?” they ask, “It doesn’t seem fair to them to say Jesus is the way to heaven.” This makes me think of some great questions: If life’s not fair and we don’t live in a fair system, and humanity has never been fair. Where does the notion of fairness come from? Why is it so important to us? How can we expect something we have never experienced or known? What makes us tell our children that growing up and doing well requires you to realize that life is not fair, while at the same time choose not to follow Jesus because we don’t think it is fair? Is it possible for something to be true and not fair? If it isn’t fair, why isn’t it fair? I know it is the 4th of July weekend, but I think the message this Sunday is going to be a very important one to hear. If you can’t be here Sunday, make sure and listen to it on the web or podcast. You won’t want to miss it.

Summer is in full swing and we have so much going on I wanted to give everyone an update:
Number of children and teens. The number of children and students involved in ministry is 20% higher than last summer!
Our Student Ministries had a successful camp and is planning a missions experience for later this summer.
Care Ministry. Our Care Ministry expanded our Food pantry and they are feeding families every week. This last week they served over 100 families! This is a record number of people served and was achieved because the Foothills family has generously given food items for the pantry.
Chairs. We raised funds for purchasing new chairs. We received enough to buy 250 new chairs! These chairs arrive in the next few weeks!
Sensory Therapy Room. We are starting a therapy room for families with special needs children. A huge need in our community. The room is painted, cameras installed and is almost ready for therapy equipment!
Family. Our Family Fun nights average 65.
Worship. Nights of Worship are happening with a huge response. Next one is June 26th!
Growth. We have seen 32 people get baptized and an additional 6 join the church! This is twice the pace over last year! Our average attendance is up 12% as well!
I love our church and what God is doing through us! The fall is looking to be even bigger and more dynamic! Look for the following:
-A Third Service option!
-Foothills Family Festival on Saturday, Sept. 10. We have Fireworks scheduled this year for the 10th anniversary of 9/11.
-More community groups for new people!
There is so much happening I think I need a nap! Maybe an espresso!

Pastor Doug
